NSSLGlobal Adds New Satellite Beams
The additional beams will improve NSSLGlobal’s coverage of Europe and the Far East. NSSLGlobal, an independent service provider of satellite communications, has added two new satellite beams to improve the quality and geographical reach of its global VSAT network. The additional beams will provide customers in the Nordics, Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Far East with better coverage at sea and on land.

New Portal Crane for Schwedenkai Intermodal Handling
Port of Kiel invests in hinterland rail links. A new portal crane has arrived at Kiel’s Schwedenkai Intermodal Terminal, meaning that trains involved in rail-ship cargo handling in future will be loaded and unloaded using the new unit instead of two Reach Stackers. The crane, built by Finnish manufacturer Konecranes, arrived in Kiel on September 25th from Gdynia in Poland aboard the heavy load vessel “Meri”. The unloading took place under the crane’s own power via a ship ramp.
New Masterplanning Guidance for Ports Published
A new report, Masterplans for the development of existing ports, has been published today by PIANC. The report was prepared by an international Working Group (WG 158) established 2012 and chaired by Stephen Cork, Technical Director at HR Wallingford. “In preparing this report, our objective was to deliver a comprehensive guide for the preparation of masterplans for existing ports,” explained Stephen Cork.

Statoil: Gas discovery in Pingvin
Operator Statoil has together with PL713 partners made a gas discovery in the Pingvin prospect in the Barents Sea. The discovery is a play opener in a frontier unexplored area of the Barents Sea northwest of Johan Castberg. The discovery well 7319/12-1, drilled by the drilling rig Transocean Spitsbergen, proved a 15-metre gas column in the well path. Statoil estimates the volumes in Pingvin to be in the range of 30-120 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent.
