Rohr-Idreco Delivers Clamshell Dredge

The Rohr division of Rohr-Idreco Dredge Systems has announced the successful start-up of another new Floating Gantry 8m3 Clamshell deep digging dredge in France. This dredge is being used to replace an old 6m3 Rohr Gantry Clamshell dredge, which Rohr has rebuilt and sold to another customer. The new 8m3 Rohr Gantry dredge was purchased to increase the digging depth and production at an existing Sand & Gravel operation.
Dryad Maritime: Ocean Ambush “Game Changer”

In the early hours of Saturday 9th August 2014, the radar of a product tanker transiting south, 200 nautical miles off the Nigerian shoreline detected a probable pirate mother ship lying in wait close to its track. Shortly after detecting the vessel, the crew was engaged by several bursts of automatic gunfire from up to three pirate boats. The pirates then made an unsuccessful attempt at boarding the vessel from the stern.
MJP, SwiftShips Team up on GoM Crewboat

The sea trials of Rodi Marine’s crewboat, the M/V Riley Claire, have given Marine Jet Power a major breakthrough in the Gulf of Mexico crewboat market. The trial results show that all performance predictions were reached. The DP2 Certified Crewboat, built by Swiftships LLC, is powered by four MJP 650 CSU water jets. During sea trials in June, the M/V Riley Claire reached a peak speed of 30.3 knots in lightship condition and 24.0 knots fully loaded.
Newport Shipping Upbeat on Dry Bulk Segment

Freight rates are set to rise across all dry bulk carrier segments as the global economic recovery gains momentum, ending the sector’s most bearish run since the start of the economic crisis in 2008/2009. According to the latest edition of Newport Shipping’s Dry Bulk Market Outlook, seaborne trade in bulk commodities is expected to pick up after almost two years of slow to moderate economic growth to almost 9% this year, after which it will ease off slightly to an annual growth rate of about 7%.

Because of the serious threat posed to people working in enclosed spaces on board ships, the IMO has introduced new requirements to SOLAS Chapter III, regulation 19, which enter into force on 1 January, 2015.
