Evergreen Holds Naming Ceremony for New Ship
Evergreen Group held the naming ceremony for Ever Loading, the sixth of its L-type vessels to be built by CSBC Corporation in Taiwan. The ceremony took place at CSBC's Kaohsiung shipyard and was officiated by Bronson Hsieh, Evergreen Group's Second Vice Group Chairman. The official rope-cutting of the new 8,508 TEU vessel was performed by Michelle Nardulli, a member of the Board of Directors of Italia Marittima, Evergreen's Italian subsidiary.

MOL Coal Carrier to Serve Tohoku Electric Power
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) today announced that the coal carrier Soma Maru, which will serve Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc., was delivered at Mizushima Shipyard of Sanoyas Shipbuilding Corporation on July 17, 2014. The vessel, which was jointly developed by Sanoyas Shipyard and MOL, is a state-of-the-art coal carrier with its wide-beam/shallow-draft shape and various safety and energy-saving specifications.
Maersk Aims to Raise Aisia-Europe Freight Rates
The world's biggest container shipping company Maersk Line, a unit of A.P. Moller-Maersk, said it planned to raise freight rates on routes from Asia to northern Europe by $450 per 20-foot container (TEU). The new rates will take effect from Aug. 1, the company told Reuters in an email on Friday. A container freight derivatives broker said most of the ten biggest container shipping companies are aiming for higher rates from Aug. 1, even though some have not issued statements.
DMC Builds the Smallest Ever Nozzle
Damen Marine Components (DMC), part of Damen Shipyards Group, announced it has smashed its propeller nozzle world record by 33 percent downwards. This downsizing to an inside diameter of 665 millimeters only - from the previous 1,000 mm ‘entry level model’ - marks a new milestone for DMC’s Optima Nozzle series. Already one-third smaller than the previous one meter (1,000mm) Benjamins, the new 65 centimeter nozzles are, however, dwarfed altogether by the biggest models in the Optima series.
