Doyle Talks LNG, Exports, Panama Canal with Japanese Officials
Earlier this week, Commissioner William P. Doyle met with Japanese public and private sector officials to discuss U.S. natural gas, exports, and the Panama Canal. Japan is the world's largest importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG). The country has relied on imported natural gas for decades as part of its energy portfolio. However, the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011, disabled the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.
Cruise Ship Floated at STX Turku Shipyard
The float-out of Mein Schiff 3, an environmentally friendly cruise ship being built for TUI Cruises, was performed at STX Turku Shipyard on Friday, November 8, 2013. At the press conference held at STX Finland Oy’s Turku Shipyard earlier the same day, Richard J. Vogel, CEO of TUI Cruises and Jari Anttila, Deputy CEO of STX Finland Oy were pleased to speak about the important milestone Mein Schiff 3 project reached on that particular day.
Welltec Opens New Factory in Esbjerg
Oil service company Danish Welltec signed an agreement to set up a factory in Esbjerg. Acquisition Brings Bibby into Marine Surveying
Bibby Ship Management Group Ltd. announced the acquisition of Murray Fenton (India) Surveyors Limited. The acquisition was made via Bibby Ship Management India Pvt. Ltd., and will see India’s service offering expand into marine, cargo and offshore surveying including marine audit services. Operations will be based in Mumbai and Gujarat, with geographic expansion into other areas of India planned for the future. Bibby Ship Management welcomed Capt. Kapil Dev Bahl.

Somali Pirates Again Active, Though Recent Losers
Just a few weeks after the Operation Commander of the EU Naval Force, Rear Admiral Bob Tarrant, issued another warning about the on-going piracy threat, there have been two more piracy related incidents off the Somali coast. The first incident involved EU Naval Force German frigate, FGS Niedersachsen which prevented 10 suspect pirates from getting far out to sea. The second incident was 460 miles south east of Mogadishu, when a merchant ship had to repel an attack from 5 armed pirates.
