Korean Coast Guard Chooses MTU Propulsion
MTU has been chosen by the Korean Coast Guard (KCG) to provide propulsion and onboard power for a new class of patrol vessels in its ever expanding and modernizing fleet. The new 5,000-ton displacement patrol vessel will be powered by four MTU 20V1163M94 engines in a Combined Diesel and Diesel (CODAD) propulsion configuration, with onboard power provided by four 12V4000M23S gensets. The first of the new class of vessels will begin service in 2016.

Tankship Still Held, Government Illegally Selling Off Cargo Say Stena
According to Stena Oil, the West African republic of São Tomé e Príncipe is trying to sell cargo valued at USD 7,5 million which they wrongfully confiscated from Swedish company Stena Oil. This is the latest attempt by the government in São Tomé to profit on their illegal confiscation earlier this year of the ships 'Marida Melissa' and 'Duzgit Integrity', chartered by Stena Oil. The two oil tankers have been wrongfully detained by São Tomé for nearly eight months.
Noble Corp. Reports Better Q3 2013 Results
Offshore drilling contractor for the oil and gas industry, Noble Corp., reports that (excluding a sale transaction mentioned below, settlement and asset impairment charge), third quarter 2013 earnings were $219 million, or $0.85 per diluted share. The results compared to $177 million, or $0.69 per diluted share, for the second quarter of 2013 and $115 million, or $0.45 per diluted share for the third quarter of 2012.

US Warship Rescues 128 From Sinking Raft in Mediterranean
Amphibious transport dock ship 'USS San Antonio' was alerted by the Maltese Government to the plight of a raft crowded with immigrants in heavy weather in the central Mediterranean Sea. Winds and seas were rocking the raft when it was spotted by a Maltese patrol aircraft. Shortly afterwards, the Maltese government contacted several ships in the area, as well as U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, and requested rescue assistance.
Port of Baltimore Hit by Longshoreman's Strike
Cargo operations at the Port of Baltimore, one of the largest and busiest ports in the United States, were halted on Wednesday by a longshoremen's strike after contract negotiations stalled, report Reuters. Citing Richard Scher, a spokesman for the Maryland Port Administration, Reuters inform that there is no cargo being handled or ships being worked at the public marine terminals at the port of Baltimore, which is the only port from Maine to Texas that was not working that day.

GE LM500s to Power Korea Navy Ships
GE Marine reports its LM500 aeroderivative gas turbine has been selected to power the Republic of Korea Navy’s PKX-B patrol boat program. The LM500 gas turbines will be manufactured in-country by Samsung Techwin at its Changwon, Korea, facility. The potential gas turbine propulsion system value over the life of the 34-ship PKX-B program is approximately $400 million. The program will be conducted in two phases. The first phase is for 16 shipsets.
