M/V Island Duchess Delivered to Island Offshore
Island Offshore took delivery of M/V Island Duchess from the Vard Brevik yard in Norway. This is the second vessel in a series of four platform supply vessels of Rolls-Royce UT 717 CD design to be delivered from Vard Brevik in 2013 and 2014. M/V Island Duchess was christened together with her sister vessel M/V Island Duke during a naming ceremony earlier this summer, and is heading for the spot market as soon as she leaves the yard.
Navis Installs DP on Netherlands’ Largest Superyacht
Navis Engineering has concluded a contract to supply a dynamic positioning (DP) system to the largest superyacht to be constructed in The Netherlands, the 99m Madame Gu. Built at Feadship in steel and aluminum over the course of a four-year period, the superyacht is powered by four MTU 20v diesel engines and can reach a maximum speed of 24 knots. It has a beam of 13.6m, a maximum draught of 4.6m, is classed by Lloyd’s Register and is MCA compliant.
Bureau Veritas Classes Brazil’s Largest FPU
Petrobras’ P-55 Floating Production Unit (FPU), the largest and the first of this kind entirely built in Brazil, is on its way to the Roncador Field, Campos Basin, where it will be installed in a water depth of 1,790 metres. The column stabilized semi-submersible has a capacity of 180,000 bopd and 6,000,000 cu m of gas. The unit is classed by Bureau Veritas. BV group companies also provided a wide range of verification and support services which made the major project possible.

USCG Approves DESMI Ocean Guard for All Salinities
On October 11, 2013, DESMI Ocean Guard’s ballast water treatment system OxyClean was granted U.S. Coast Guard AMS acceptance. The AMS acceptance covers all salinities ranging from freshwater to marine water. This is the first time the USCG has released an AMS acceptance that covers all salinities, as all previously released acceptances are valid in only marine and brackish water, and hence not valid in freshwater.

Fairmount Tugs Assist FPSO OSX3 Installation
Fairmount Marine’s tugs Fairmount Glacier and Fairmount Expedition have assisted in the installation of FPSO OSX3 in the Tubarão Martelo oilfield offshore Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Both Fairmount tugs were part of a five unit strong fleet of tugs contracted to hook-up the OSX3 to her anchors. Fairmount Marine was contracted by Boskalis Offshore for the offshore support for the positioning of OSX3 during the hook-up operation.
Lakes Limestone Trade Up More Than 6% in September
Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 3.5 million tons in September, an increase of 6.2% compared to a year ago. The September total was, however, 4.9% below August’s tally. Shipments from U.S. ports totaled 3 million tons, an increase of 8.1% compared to a year ago. Loadings at Canadian quarries – 467,000 tons – dipped by the equivalent of one cargo in a 767-foot-long laker. Year-to-date the Lakes limestone trade stands at 19.9 million tons…
