The Coast Guard Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to the education and welfare of Coast Guard members and their families, recognized the Coast Guard Remember movement and awarded Lieutenant Lucy Love the 2013 Coast Guard Foundation Beacon Award at its 33rd annual Salute to the United States Coast Guard. Love was awarded for dedicating countless hours of her personal time to make sure the Coast Guard Remember movement was a rousing success.
BOEM Proposes Central Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale
As part of President Obama’s all-of-the-above energy strategy to continue to expand safe and responsible domestic energy production, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) today announced that it will hold Gulf of Mexico Central Planning Area (CPA) oil and gas lease sale 231 in New Orleans on March 19, 2014. The sale is the second CPA lease sale and the fourth overall sale under the 2012 – 2017 Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Natural Gas Leasing Program.

Coast Guard Rescues Iranian Mariners
While operating in the northern waters of the Gulf, a small vessel capsized in a remote area leaving five Iranian mariners stranded with no one to rescue them. This was the scenario these men faced prior to their chance discovery by the crew of U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Maui. Rescue did not come to their aid until this 110-foot Coast Guard cutter happened to come across the mariners whose lives were saved by the quick-thinking Coast Guard crew.

The skipper of a racing yacht has been made to pay over £100,000 in fines and costs after colliding with a 120,000 ton oil tanker in the Solent.
