RINA Performs Design Appraisal for CNG Power Plant
International classification and verification company RINA Services has performed the design approval for the world's largest Compressed Natural Gas storage plant in Grati, Indonesia. The CNG will feed the local 300 MW power plant. The plant, operated by Indonesia’s PT PLN (Persero), burns up to 15 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas from the CNG storage, driving three gas turbines. Adding a CNG plant to the existing power station tackles the issue of peak load demand.

Bibby Renews Contract with Talisman Sinopec Energy U.K.
Aberdeen-based subsea installation contractor Bibby Offshore has secured a contract extension worth in excess of £100 million,with Talisman Sinopec Energy UK. A further three years with a one year extension option has been signed, making this the longest fixed term contract to be secured by Bibby Offshore. As part of the agreement, Bibby Offshore will deliver construction and inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) works via its Diving Support Vessel (DSV) Bibby Topaz.
Panama Canal Prepares Workforce for New Locks
As part of the preparations for the expanded Panama Canal, the Board of Inspectors of the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has certified 12 new tugboat captains after successfully completing training. This is the fourth group of the program which started in 2008 and has certified 47 tugboat captains. This represents 50% of the goal set to meet the demand for the efficient and safe transit of vessels through the new locks of the Panama Canal.

Clean Marine’s EGCS First to Operate Inside ECA
MV Balder, equipped with Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS) from Clean Marine, is reported to be the first vessel in the world to operate this type of system in the U.S. Emission Control Area (ECA). Upon arrival in Baltimore last week, the vessel’s Master sought approval from the coast guard to enter and exit the ECA Zone using High Sulphur Fuel Oil with EGCS, rather than burning the more expensive Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (1% Sulphur content).

Kastrop Elected Chair of Redwood City Port Commission
Lorianna Kastrop has been elected as Chair of the Redwood City Port Commission, the first woman to hold the position in the Port's 76-year history. In June 2008, Kastrop was the second woman in history appointed to the Port Commission. The first was Marguerite Leipzig, in the early 1980s, after having served on the Redwood City Council, including two years as mayor. Kastrop was reappointed to the Port Commission in 2012.
