Lankhorst Ropes Announces Cut-Resistant Jacket Research Project

Lankhorst Ropes Offshore Division is undertaking a research project into the development of cut resistant jackets for mooring ropes in the Norwegian and Barents Seas. The project will be used to assess materials needed to reduce the effects of fishing trawler lines on synthetic fiber mooring lines. Deepwater moorings, beyond 800m, in the Norwegian and Barents Seas are subject to extreme weather and wave conditions.

Damen Develops Nozzle Spinning Method

Damen Marine Components (DMC) has developed a pioneering nozzle production method based on a single weld seam on the inner side of the nozzle. This makes the process much more efficient and environmentally friendly. The new Nozzle Spinning Machine can deliver nozzles up to 4.5 m at short notice. Based in Hardinxveld in the Netherlands and part of the Damen Shipyards Group, DMC has invested in new spinning machinery for its facility in Gdansk, Poland.

COSCO (Nantong) shipyard delivers offshore drilling rig to Sevan Drilling COSCO (Nantong) Shipyard Co., Ltd, a subsidiary 51% owned by COSCO Shipyard Group Co., Ltd, has delivered its new build Sevan Brasil to Sevan Drilling ASA . The Sevan Brasil semi submersible has a LOA of 99 m with a breadth of 75 m and is 24.5 meters in depth. The rig is scheduled to commence operation under a six year charter contract with Petrobras during second quarter 2012.

Refubished Kiev-class aircraft carrier, formerly 'Admiral Gorshkov' for sea trials in the Barents Sea. Repaired and converted at the Russian Sevmash shipyard, the 45,000 ton flat-top is expected to undergo testing in the Barents Sea shortly, before hand-over to the Indian Navy. In addition, the ship will undertake a 3,5 month test expedition before acceptance.
