With all five blades of its propeller severely bent, a 290-meter container vessel needed a fast, on-site solution to restore the propeller’s balance and efficiency. Hydrex diver/technicians are trained to carry out repairs underwater in the shortest possible time frame and a team was therefore mobilized to the ship’s location in Diego Garcia in the British Indian Ocean Territory to perform a cold straightening of the blades.

The 98 meters long SIGMA class frigate, the third frigate built by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding for the Royal Moroccan Navy, left Vlissingen earlier for her sea acceptance trials (SAT) in the North Sea. During the SAT, an intensive program was carried out in which the platform as well as the sensor weapons and communications suite were extensively tested, to the satisfaction of the Royal Moroccan Navy.

The unit has been in use at the Statoil-operated Peregrino field in Brazil since production start-up in 2011. The global FPSO contractor BW Offshore will take over operation of the FPSO after a transition period of about six months. The Peregrino FPSO project was initiated in 2007 and the conversion from a very large crude carrier (VLCC) to a complex offshore oil production installation required more than 15 million labour hours and an investment in excess of USD 1 billion.
