New Rig Concept to Improve Recovery
Statoil is preparing an invitation to tender for a new type of drilling rig for mature fields on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS). The new rigs, known as category J, will be jack-ups designed by the industry on behalf of Statoil. Statoil will propose for licence groups to take on ownership of these rigs. In order to realise the full potential of the NCS, increasing drilling activity on mature fields is important.
NOAA Releases Restoration Plan for Cosco Busan Impacts
Final Restoration Plan Completed for Cosco Busan Oil Spill; Projects will Address Impacts from Ship that Struck the Bay Bridge. State and federal trustee agencies have released the Cosco Busan Oil Spill Final Damage Assessment and Restoration Plan. The document summarizes the injuries to wildlife, habitat, and recreational uses from the oil spill that occurred on Nov. 7, 2007. It also describes a number of restoration projects that will be implemented to compensate for injuries from the spill.
Grounding of Bulker – ECDIS Knowledge Deficient
On 9 August 2011, CSL Thames, a Maltese registered self-discharging bulk carrier, grounded briefly in the Sound of Mull while on passage from Glensanda to Wilhelmshaven. An unusual twin-hull cruise ship will set sail from Hong Kong on March 8, after being acquired by a Chinese mainland tycoon, his first step towards building a Chinese cruise ship fleet.
