AWT Launches GlobalView Fleet Management 2.0
Applied Weather Technology, Inc. (AWT), released GlobalView 2.0, a new version of its fleet management system featuring port forecasts, tide data, tools for customization and direct access to bunker pricing. The new version also includes improved safety features including global ice concentrations and spot forecasts with the latest weather and wave conditions. In addition, fleet managers can now view the voyage tracks of captains using AWT’s BVS onboard system in GlobalView.

The switch is type-approved by Germanisches Lloyd and leads to meeting the sulphur emissions levels in CARB and SECA areas. The DS MKII Diesel Switch has been developed by Swedish-based Jowa Technology. According to the company it provides a reliable solution for the shipping industry.

DoD FY '13 Budget Proposal: $13B/Year in Shipbuilding
President Barack Obama sent Congress a proposed defense budget of $613.9 billion for fiscal 2013, Feb. 13. The request for the Department of Defense (DoD) includes $525.4 billion in discretionary budget authority to fund base defense programs and $88.5 billion to support Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO), primarily in Afghanistan. Of the discretionary budget, $155.9 billion represents the Department of the Navy's budget request.
