Kvichak Marine’s New Crane
Kvichak Marine Industries, of Seattle, Wash. was a recipient of an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) small shipyard grant awarded in August 2009. The grant funded much of the major equipment associated with the Company’s new metal processing facility, Flashmark Tech, which opened earlier this year. Another benefit of this grant is a new crane for their headquarters in Seattle, Wash. The crane is made by North Pacific Crane with a capacity of 35,000 pounds.

GE Gas Turbines on Euro Frigate
GE Marine reports that the first frigate Aquitaine of the Italian-French FREMM program was recently launched at DCNS’ shipyard in Lorient, France. The ship is powered by the GE LM2500+G4 gas turbine-based propulsion system. Aquitaine sea trials were successfully completed in May 2011. Construction continues on the first Italian Navy FREMM Bergamini, with initial start of the LM2500+G4 gas turbine propulsion system expected within the next few months.

Off Shore Utility Vessel: IMO 2 Compliant
Sarawak Slipways has delivered a long list of anchor handling tugs and off shore vessels for petroleum producers around the world. In mid-June this year the yard completed sea trials on one of their larger vessels. The 61 by 14-meter Nautika Resolute is designated Offshore Utility Vessel and was built to a design by Wartsila Ship Design of Singapore. The vessel has a design speed of 12 knots but achieved 13.5 knots during sea trials.

Kvichak Marine Industries in Seattle, Washington announces the appointment of Mike Larsen to our Quality Assurance (QA) department. Larsen will be responsible for the QA plan, in process inspections and documentation control for the on-going Transportable Port Security Boat (TPSB) contract with the U.S. Coast Guard. Prior to joining Kvichak, Larsen was with Aluminum Chambered Boats (ACB) in Bellingham as a project manager for multiple boat projects with the U.S. military.
