Burger Launches 60′ Research Vessel “Coregonus”
Manitowoc, Wisconsin, U.S.A. – April 8, 2011 Burger Boat Company launches the R/V Coregonus, a 60’ Research Vessel for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. R/V Coregonus is replacing the R/V Barney Devine, a steel Fishing Tug built by Burger in 1937. SeaCraft Design in Sturgeon Bay, WI designed the R/V Coregonus for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to meet the demanding requirements of the department.
BOEMRE Seeking First-Time Environmental Enforcement Officer and Chief of Regulations
WASHINGTON – The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) today announced it is seeking to fill two key positions for the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), one of the two new bureaus that will start operating on Oct. 1, 2011, as part of the reorganization of the former Minerals Management Service (MMS). The positions to be filled are a first-ever Environmental Enforcement Officer and the Regulations Development Branch Supervisor.

Markey Engineers New A&R Winches for Offshore
Markey Machinery recently introduced its new line of Abandonment and Recovery (A&R) winches. Development of Markey’s A&R winches was facilitated through partnership with a world-wide service provider operating a fleet of marine vessels. The manufacturer says that the A&R machines are more cost effective in operation and maintenance requirements, thus making them ideal for oil field services such as maintenance, repair, and decommissioning.
Golar LNG Signs Deal for 4 LNG Ships
Golar LNG Limited is pleased to announce that it has entered into a firm contract to build four 160,000 m3 LNG carrriers with the Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries Co Ltd ("Samsung"). The newbuilding contracts were originally entered into by Companies affiliated with Golar's largest shareholder World Shipholding. Golar has acquired the newbuilding contracts from the affiliated party based on the original contracting terms.

New opportunities in the Barents Sea
Holdings in 11 new production licences have been awarded to Statoil in the 21st licensing round on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS), which was announced by the government today, 15 April. Piracy in the Indian Ocean
Somali based pirates continue to cause serious challenges to merchant vessels transiting the Indian Ocean.At the time of writing, EU NAVFOR statistics indicate that there are 26 vessels and 582 crew held captive off the coast of Somalia (not taking into account an unknown number of smaller dhows and fishing vessels that have been seized). Moreover, the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) reported that Somali pirates hijacked 49 vessels in 2010, an increase from 47 in 2009.
