Skipperliner Wins Cassville Ferry $1.7m Contract
Wisconsin’s oldest operating ferry service is getting a new boat. By July 9, 2011, the Cassville ferry service will have a new tug and barge to make its Mississippi River crossing. On December 3, 2010, Skipperliner won a $1.7m contract to deliver a new 78-ft. barge – able can carry about 12 typical vehicles – as well as a 45-ft. tugboat to push it. The new Cassville ferry will replace the existing Charlie D, which carries up to nine cars.

Rolls-Royce has achieved full power operation of its first production MT30 powered main turbine generator set delivered to the U.S. Navy. The MT30, delivered to the U.S. Navy for the DDG-1000, USS Zumwalt program, achieved full power operation at 36 MW during testing at the US Navy’s land based test site in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Great Lakes Shipyard, Cleveland, Ohio, will perform repairs, haul out and drydocking, as necessary, to the U.S. Geological Survey Research Vessel Sturgeon under a fleet maintenance contract with the Great Lakes Science Center, Ann Arbor, Mich. of the U.S. Geological Survey, Department of the Interior.
