Husick Honored with NMEA Lifetime Achievement Award
In a ceremony that mixed fond memories with humorous stories, the National Marine Electronics Association celebrated the life of Charles “Chuck” Husick, who died September 13 at the age of 77. Association President, David Hayden, presented NMEA’s Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously to Husick’s son and grandson at the October 2 banquet capping the NMEA’s 2010 International Marine Electronics Conference & Expo in Seattle, Wash. Husick was the former head of the Chris-Craft Boat Co.

HamiltonJet HT Orders Strong
Waterjet manufacturer HamiltonJet said it has had considerable commercial success with its new HT series since the first model was introduced less than two years ago with 60 units being sold to date. Largest Ferry Employs Common-Rail Technology
Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. (DSME) of Korea, one of the world’s largest shipyards, has ordered four common-rail 12V48/60CR Tier-II propulsion engines from MAN Diesel & Turbo SE. The prime movers will power a new RoPax ferry for Tunisian ship owner COTUNAV (Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation). The ferry will have a capacity of 3,200 passengers and 1,060 vehicles, and a top speed of 27.5 knots.
California Polytechnic Orders Second Iver2 AUV
OceanServer Technology announced that Cal Poly has agreed to purchase a second Iver2 AUV for research purposes. The first Iver2 AUV was purchased in 2008 and has been used extensively for a variety of research applications including one project that required the vehicle to operate under the ice in the Arctic. The new vehicle will also be a multi use platform in a number of research efforts including marine life tracking (such as sharks).
