Keppel Corporation Limited (Keppel Corp), through a subsidiary Keppel Philippines Marine Inc, (KPMI), is raising its shareholdings in two associated companies, Subic Shipyard and Engineering Inc. (SSEI) and Consort Land, Inc. (CLI) to boost its Near Market, Near Customer strategy in the Philippines. SSEI is a shipyard located in Subic Bay, the Philippines, which provides repair, conversion and building services to shipowners and offshore operators in the region.

NG Shipbuilding Gulfport Awarded OSHA Star Status
Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) Shipbuilding's facility in Gulfport, Miss. has been recognized for exemplary shipyard safety and received "star" status in the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)-sponsored Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). OSHA representatives presented the official VPP star status certification and flags to management and shipbuilders working at the Gulfport facility on July 29.
Marine Panel Mount Computer Passes Shock Testing
Comark Corporation announced that its 12-inch Marine Panel Mount Display with integrated Computer and Touchscreen options has successfully passed the MIL-901D Grade A lightweight shock test. Testing was conducted at Sypris Test & Measurement Labs in Wayne, N.J. and consisted of multiple hits from a 400 lb hammer, dropped from a height of one ft, three ft, and five ft in three axis. The MDU12PC is available with both standard brightness and sunlight readable versions, up to 1000 NITs.
Towboat Invitational Raises $295k for Charity
On Monday, July 26, Foss Maritime, Harley Marine Services and Sause Bros. sponsored the 11th annual Towboat Invitational at The Golf Club at Newcastle. The tournament brings together almost 300 people in the towboat industry all raising money for two deserving organizations, The Heart Institute at Virginia Mason Medical Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon. Towboat 2010 was another sold out tournament despite the economic downturn within the marine industry.

On Friday, July 23, First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama christened the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Stratton, a vessel that was detail designed and production engineered by Northrop Grumman using ShipConstructor CAD/CAM software. Stratton is the first Coast Guard patrol cutter to be named after a woman in more than 20 years. MV Suez Hijacked in the Gulf of Aden
In the early hours of 2 August, the MV Suez reported being under small arms fire from a pirate attack and minutes later she reported pirates on board. After notification of the attack, attempts were made to make contact with the MV Suez but to no avail. MV Suez was travelling in the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor (IRTC) when attacked. Immediately after the first report a helicopter was directed to the ship but pirates had already taken over the command of the vessel.
