Wireless boat security systems supplier Paradox Marine has received a medal from the US Coast Guard in recognition of its product, the Nav-Tracker 2.0 GPS Tracking System. The system helped the Coast Guard recover a stolen boat in the Bahamas last September 17. A 34 ft Contender equipped with the Paradox Marine Nav-Tracker 2.0 GPS tracking system, stolen from Marsh Harbor in the Bahamas, was located by the system and recovered in the vicinity by the US Coast Guard about 12 hours later.

In mid July of 2008, oil prices shattered all-time records and hovered around $140 per barrel. Analysts had dire warnings of $200 per barrel oil. Gone are the days of “cheap” oil, cable newscasts screamed. Exactly a decade ago, oil prices slumped below $10 per barrel in December of 1998. Analysts then decried prices would never again rise to $40 per barrel, markets were saturated. Sound familiar? It seems commodity analysts’ predictions change as much as the nightly weatherman’s.
MOL, Gulf LPG Transport Start VLGC Pool
Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) announced on Jan. 27, the formation of a very large gas carrier (VLGC) pool called LPG Global Transport, along with Gulf LPG Transport Company W.L.L. of Qatar (Gulf LPG). The pool will begin operations immediately. Gulf LPG Transport Company W.L.L. is a limited liability joint venture company established by Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) and Qatar Shipping Company. Marlink 5Yr Contract with Aida Cruises
Marlink, the world's largest maritime satellite communications integrator has announced a new five year contract with German cruise company Aida Cruises, for the supply of its Sealink(T) satellite communications system. Sealink(T) will be provided to five existing cruise vessels and three planned new builds, the first of which will be in operation from spring 2009 with the others in commission in 2010 and 2011.

A strong export market and demand in its commercial markets has led to a surge in export enquiries for Seaward Marine Ltd and a healthy order book going into 2009. The demand follows on from the company, which custom builds boats to order, delivering its 20th boat to Japan, a Seaward 29, in December – one of eight delivered in 2008. The deliveries also included two Seaward 35s, two further Seaward 29s and three Seaward 25s.
