Pearl Harbor Biodiesel Ferry
Naval Station Pearl Harbor and the National Park Service activated the first USS Arizona Memorial biodiesel ferry boat #39-1 John W. Finn during a ceremony at the USS Arizona Memorial and Visitor Center April 7. The John W. Finn is the first of five new boats that will ultimately replace the existing 20-year old U.S. Navy-operated tour boats that transport 1.5 million visitors per year to and from the memorial.

USS Stockdale (DDG 106), the Navy's newest Arleigh Burke class guided-missile destroyer, will be arriving at Naval Base Ventura County Port Hueneme on Tuesday, April 14th at approximately 10:00 a.m.
Webb Institute Names Crowley Scholars
Crowley's commitment to provide educational opportunities to exemplary students continued this week, as the Webb Institute named Simmy Willemann of Pleasantville, New York and Seth Cooley of East Lyme, Conn., as the 2009-2010 Crowley scholars. Both students, who will each receive $5,000 in cash grants from Crowley, were selected based on their distinguished scholastic and community service activities.
French Ship Owners Choose Transas
A new manoeuvring simulator for the French Ship Owners (CMA-CGM and SNCM) in cooperation with the Ecole de la Marine Marchande of Marseille will be supplied by Transas. Two of the most important French ship owners, CMA-CGM and SNCM, signed a partnership with the Ecole de la Marine Marchande of Marseille (France) to purchase a manoeuvring simulator to help their captains improve their skills, and will be training all future officers in the same way.

Combined Maritime Forces Alert to Mariners
Following a series of attacks off the eastern coast of Somalia, Combined Maritime Forces issued an updated special maritime advisory message. TVA Uses Ellicott Dredge for Cleanup
Three months after a massive coal ash spill, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has begun dredging the ashen byproduct of coal-generated electricity from the Emory River using an Ellicott Series 370 "Dragon" dredge. Jacobs Engineering is the prime contractor for this first phase of the project. The Ellicott 370 “Dragon” began sucking up ash from the river April 2, TVA officials said during a news briefing.

Tom has worked in the shipping industry since graduation from university in 1978 when he joined P&O. Working in liner management and agency operations, he represented P&O in the UK, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and Australia. In 2004 he became head of NYK Line’s European Container activities based in London.
