M/V Alliance Towing On the Inland Waterways
Late in 2008 Higman Barge Lines Inc. took delivery of another in their series of 72 by 30 ft 2000 hp push boats. Along with a number of other vessels, the M/V Alliance was built at Hope Services Inc. in Dulac, Louisiana as their Hull Number 165. This was followed by the Erik Salen, a sister vessel, in January 2009. A third towboat, the Kal A. Shaw, being built to the same design, will be delivered to Higman Barge Lines in mid-April.

Crowley, Receives 10th ATB in Mississippi
On the wake of the christening and launching of its newest heavy-lift-series deck barge in Portland, Ore., Crowley took delivery of its newest Articulated Tug Barge (ATB) - the tug Commitment and barge 650-6 in Pascagoula, Miss, on April 2. The 185,000-barrel ATB, the 10th in Crowley's fleet, has been chartered by a major energy company to transport petroleum products on the U.S. West Coast beginning in April.

ABS to Class First Jackup Building in Mexico
A BS has been selected to class the first self elevating drilling rig built in Mexico. The rig is a Friede & Goldman JU2000 (E) design to be built by Operadora CICSA headquartered in Mexico City. The rig design is intended for all-year Central North Sea harsh-environment operation in up to 400 feet of water. According to ABS’ Country Manager for Mexico Paul DeLaire, the rig is being built in three locations: Guadalajara, Pueblo Viejo and Tuxpan.
