Wärtsilä Powers 5 Aker Yards Vessels
Wärtsilä has signed major contracts with Aker Yards AS Søviknes and Aker Yards AS Trading - the recently established project development arms of the Aker Yards Group - for the supply of propulsion equipment for five offshore vessel projects being built in Norway, India and Brazil. Bourbon Sagitta Crew Kidnapped
On October 31, at about 12:00 a.m., a number of armed men in 3 fly boats, boarded the Bourbon Sagitta, an Anchor Handling Tug Support vessel assisting loading operations of crude oil from a field off the Bakasi Peninsula (180 kms from Douala). 10 of the 15 crew members (2 Cameroonians, 1 Tunisian, 1 Senegalese and 6 French seamen) were kidnapped. No one was injured. The ship and the staff still on board are now safe.

Oceansaver BWMS Approval
OceanSaver’s ballast water management system was granted final approval from the IMO at the latest meeting of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 58) in this month. The Ballast Water Working Group of the Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environment Protection, which advises the MEPC, had carefully studied OceanSaver's application for final approval in July this year, and recommended that the MEPC grant this approval at its meeting in October.
