Ammonia-powered Tug Conversion Underway

Platypus Marine Inks LOI with Damen for Jones Act CTV
Port Angeles, Wash. shipyard Platypus Marine has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Dutch shipbuilding conglomerate Damen for the construction of a new Jones Act-qualified crew transfer vessel (CTV) to service the U.S. offshore wind industry. The agreement covers design license and material package.The vessel, which Platypus will build on spec, will be of Damen's FCS 2710 design. Barges Break Free on the Ohio River in Louisville

Samskip to Operate 'Zero-emission' Hydrogen-powered Containerships
Shipping and logistics company Samskip said it is “venturing into zero-carbon, emissions-free shipping” through the operation of two hydrogen powered, autonomous-ready vessels from Indian shipbuilder Cochin Shipyard Ltd.The containerships were ordered by marine robotics specialist Ocean Infinity for scheduled delivery in 2025 and will be operated under long-term charter by Samskip on its west European routes.

Abandoned Tug Sinks Near Seattle
A derelict tugboat began taking on water and sank Monday morning in Salmon Bay near Ballard in Seattle.The vessel, which had been abandoned for a number of years, was moored at a dock just east of the Hiram M. Greek shipowner the Angelicoussis Group announced its dry bulk division has taken delivery of its first dual-fuel Capesize bulk carrier.Ubuntu Unity was officially handed over to its Maran Dry Management (MDM) from Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. Vard Wins Order to Build Cable Layer for Mystery Owner
Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri announced its Vard subsidiary has secured an order to design and build a new cable laying vessel for an unnamed "international shipping company".The ship will be built entirely by the Vard network, including the main systems and equipment, for scheduled delivery in 2024, Fincantieri said.At approximately 95 meters long, the vessel will have a total of 3,700 tons of cable installation equipment, 60 single cabins, DP2 positioning and seakeeping system.
