Rep. Cummings Receives Maritime Service Award
On Wednesday, October 29, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD) delivered keynote remarks at APL Maritime’s Senior Management Conference, and received an award recognizing his service to the maritime industry. “The U.S. flagged oceangoing fleet is vital to our nation’s security, as is ensuring the future of that fleet both through federal policy and support for the next generation of maritime workers,” Cummings said.
Partners Deliver Modular Floating Tidal Energy Platform
A group of offshore companies, including Bluewater, Damen and Van Oord among others, has partnered for a floating tidal energy platform a project to generate clean electricity, marking the first time that a floating tidal platform is used for electricity production into the Dutch grid. Set to become operational in the first half of 2015, the BlueTEC platform, which will be moored near Texel in the Waddenzee, is of modular design and uses a new type of permanent mooring lines.
LA Governor Jindal Appoints Bollinger's Barker

Statoil Invests $1.5b in US Offshore Project
Statoil together with co-owners in the Stampede development in the Gulf of Mexicohas sanctioned the Stampede project in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. CMA CGM to Retrofit 10 More Bulbous Bows
The CMA CGM Group said it will retrofit 10 of its vessels’ bulbous bows to achieve improved energy efficiency for slow steaming. The modifications are in addition to the 15 CMA CGM ships that have already been retrofitted in 2013 and 2014. The bulbous bows exchanges, to be performed within a week in repair yards’ drydocks, will reduce the ship’s fuel consumption and cut CO2 emissions by improving the ships’ wave resistance and hydrodynamic efficiency.
