Seaspan Shipyards Opens New Vancouver Office
Seaspan Shipyards officially opened its new 7,800 square meter office at the foot of Pemberton Avenue on the south western spit of the property near Seaspan’s current offices in North Vancouver, B.C. The new building, which provides space for approximately 390 employees, will serve primarily as a collaborative space for Vancouver Shipyards to execute preproduction work as a strategic partner to the Government of Canada under the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS).

Baltic Index Gains On Stronger Capesize Demand
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, rose over two percent on Tuesday to mark its biggest one-day percentage gain in about seven weeks, helped by stronger capesize rates. The overall index, which factors in rates for capesize, panamax and supramax shipping vessels, was up 22 points, or 2.31 percent, at 974 points. This was the biggest one-day percentage gain for the index since Feb. 21.
HMM to Order 20 Mega Containerships
South Korea’s largest shipping line Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) announced it will order 20 new containerships, including eight 14,000 TEU vessels and 12 ships above 20,000 TEU. The announcement comes less than a week after the South Korean government unveiled its Five-year Plan for Rebuilding Korean Shipping. MAN Powers World’s First LNG-fueled Bulk Carrier
The world’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled bulk carrier, the 50,000 dwt newbuild Ilshin Green Iris, is powered by state-of-the-art technology from MAN Diesel & Turbo. The groundbreaking vessel, delivered in February 2018 for owner Ilshin Logistics, was constructed by South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (HMD) as part of a project announced in July 2016 to develop the first in a new generation of environmentally-friendly LNG-fueled bulk carriers.
