Boskalis, DEME Win South American Dredging Work
A the 50/50 joint venture between Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. and DEME has been awarded a five-year contract for the capital and maintenance dredging of the Martín García channel, located between Uruguay and Argentina in the northern part of the 50-kilometer-wide Rio de la Plata estuary. The contract from the Comision Administradora del Rio de la Plata (CARP) carries a total value of approximately €110 million ($130 million), and signing is expected to take place in the coming weeks.

Cheniere Boosts LNG Tanker Fleet Amid Asian Demand Boom
U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) producer Cheniere Energy has expanded its shipping fleet with a flurry of spot vessel charters to keep up with Asian winter demand growth as spot prices hit three-year highs, market sources said. Cheniere's Sabine Pass terminal in Louisiana pumped out 22 cargoes last month and more are expected as it ramps up its fourth production unit, or train, with more than half of all November volumes sold to China, Japan or South Korea, according to ship-tracking data.

GE, DSIC Unveil Plan for LNG Carrier Power Conversions
GE’s Marine Solutions and Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. Ltd. (DSIC) completed a preliminary design for the conversion of a steam turbine powered LNG Carrier (LNGC) to a gas turbine-based propulsion system. The study aims at steam powered LNGCs that offer low fuel efficiency but are not ready to be retired from service. The new design will feature GE’s reliable and compact COmbined Gas turbine, Electric and Steam (COGES) system.
Gastro Outbreak on Ovation of the Seas
A gastro outbreak has affected nearly 200 passengers aboard one of the world’s largest cruise ships, Ovation of the Seas. The 168,666 GT cruise liner docked in Hobart on December 5 following a 14-night cruise from Singapore. Over the two weeks, 195 cases of gastro-intestinal illness were reported, the ship’s owner Royal Caribbean said in a statement. There are 5,824 people on board, including guests and crew.
