Wärtsilä to Supply for New Viking Ferry

The new high-speed RoPax ferry by Viking Line will be equipped with Wärtsilä main engines and generating sets for low operating costs and increased payload capacity.

The new Viking Line cargo and passenger ferry will have main and auxiliary engines supplied by Wärtsilä. The order, which was received in March, comprises four Wärtsilä 46F main engines and three Wärtsilä Auxpac 20 auxiliary engine generating sets. The vessel will be built at the Helsinki shipyard of Aker Yards. The ship is designed for the Helsinki to Tallinn route and it will be delivered in 2008.

The Wärtsilä engines will allow low operating costs. The compact structure and low weight of the engines will give the benefit of increased payload capacity. The engines will be equipped with catalyzers to minimize nitrogen oxide emissions. Fuel consumption can be optimized to coincide with engine load variations.
