MLL Welcomes Aboard 50 Cadets This Summer
Maersk Line, Limited (MLL) and Farrell Lines, a subsidiary of MLL, will provide sailing opportunities this summer to 50 Cadets of U.S. maritime academies. The Cadets will be able to apply classroom lessons at sea while aboard U.S. flag commercial container and roll-on/roll-off vessels.
For more than a decade, MLL has contributed to the training of future U.S. Merchant Mariners through its summer sailing program. This program is similar to a traditional internship for college students who want to familiarize themselves with their trade of interest; but these Cadets will live aboard the ships and travel to ports around the world. Cadets will take on various roles and responsibilities, including standing watch, voyage planning and cargo handling, learning from experienced American seafarers.
Cadets will sail routes spanning the globe, familiarizing themselves with different ports of call and port operating procedures and gaining exposure to different cultures. On the most expansive U.S. flag fleet in international trades, Cadets will visit ports in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Ten Cadets will plow transatlantic routes and eight, transpacific routes; and 24 will make round trips to the Middle East, including eight on Farrell Lines roll-on/roll-off vessels. In all, 26 commercial ships will host Cadets.
