Klϋber Lubrication, a worldwide manufacturer of specialty lubricants, has introduced Klüberbio AG 39-602, an environmentally acceptable adhesive lubricant for open gears and steel cables. Based on ester oil and selected additives, the grease complies with the requirements for environmentally acceptable lubricants (EALs) as defined in Appendix A of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP).

Klüberbio AG 39-602 contains greater than 60 percent of renewable raw materials, resulting in reduced environmental impact in the event of discharge into water. With its good adhesion to surfaces and water resistance, Klüberbio AG 39-602 leads to long relubrication intervals. The product’s anti-corrosion and anti-wear additives also ensure longer component life and reduced wear. Klüberbio AG 39-602 meets the biodegradability, minimally toxic and non-bioaccumulative standards established by the 2013 VGP.

“This specialty grease is targeted for applications that require adhesion, corrosion protection, resistance to water washout, and protection from wear,” said Ben Bryant, marine market manager for Klüber Lubrication North America L.P. “Protection of wire rope and open pinion gears on winches is the primary target application, but plain bearing applications, such as rudder posts and lifeboat davits, are also good uses for Klüberbio AG 39-602. Its high base oil viscosity of 600 cSt provides excellent film thickness leading to reduced wear of components.”

Klüberbio AG 39-602 can be applied continuously through transfer lubrication with pinion or by brush. Compressed-air lubrication equipment can be used for the lubrication of steel cables. The required lubricant quantity depends on the operating conditions in each individual case.
