Utility Tug for Sealink
Building to their own account, Sealink Sdn Bhd of Miri Sarawak East Malyasia are nearing completion of a 3600 hp utility tug. The 40 by 11.8-meter Sealink Maju 8 will be powered by a pair of Cummins KTA50 M2 engines each generating 1800 hp at 1800 RPM. The engines turn fiexed pitch four-blade propellers in nozzles through Twin Disc 5507 gears. To give the tug a bollard pull of approximately 45 tons. A pair of Cummins powered 150 kW generators provides electrical power.
The main deck is fitted with a single drum 50-ton towing winch with capacity for 850 meters of 44 m/m wire. The vessel can make 12 knots but has an economic 11-knot speed with a 5,500 nautical mile range at 10 knots. The afterdeck, with a five-ton per square meter strength, can carry 300 tons of cargo. Electric service is provided for transporting reefers on deck. Crash rails are 1.5 meters high on either side of the main deck with a safe haven provided. Accommodation includes three single-berth, one double-berth and four three berth staterooms each with an attached washroom. All cabins are air-conditioned. The Sealink Maju 8 is also fitted with a dispersant system incorporating two three-meter spray booms.
