November 9, 1999

Cunard Line Limited reported that the plans for the Project Queen Mary ship are finished, and a shipyard to build what is being dubbed the world’s largest cruise ship will be selected by the end of the year. Finished plans call for a ship that will be in excess of 1,100 ft. in length, which is more than 80 ft. longer than the current holder of the “world’s largest” title, the Kvaerner Masa Yards-built Voyager of the Seas which is completed but has not yet entered service. The ship will reportedly carry up to 2,500 passengers and require an installed horsepower 140,000.
