Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

May 30, 2007

The role of unmanned vehicles in the war against maritime terrorism will be one of the key topics at this year’s UDT Europe, taking place at La Mostra d’Oltremare in Naples, Italy, June 5-7. Keynote presentations will highlight the technological advances in remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and autonomous undersea and surface vehicles (AUVs), and detail how these vehicles can not only be used for typical naval missions but also to counter the rapidly growing threat of maritime terrorism. Unmanned vehicles can perform roles in harbor and coastal waters surveillance, mine counter-measure operations, intelligence operations, and as integrated components of harbor defense systems. In the civilian world, unmanned vehicles are being developed for use in oceanographic, scientific and archaeological surveys, and for servicing to many off-shore installations, including oil platforms, pipelines, communications and power cables, and seismographic undersea stations.
