Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

September 20, 1999

A fire reportedly broke out in the engine room of the Carnival Cruise Lines ship Tropicale on Sept. 19, causing the ship to lose propulsion. The fire was extinguished without injuries to guests or crew, Carnival officials said. All other ship's functions other than propulsion are fully operational. Carnival will provide full refunds to the 1,096 guests on the Tropicale's four-day cruise, and will offer a free future three- or four-day cruise as well.
