Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

September 12, 2006

The Coast Guard released the Preliminary Health Risk Assessment for its proposed weapons training exercises on certain water areas of the Great Lakes. The live gunnery training would be conducted to develop and evaluate the ability of boat crews to correctly and precisely apply small arms fire against a vessel posing an imminent threat. The assessment found no significant elevated risk to human health or the marine environment. The comment period on the proposal to establish the training area safety zones has been extended through November 13. 71 Fed. Reg. 53629 Source: HK Law
