Launch of “SwachhBharat Abhiyan” in JNPT

In response to the Nation’s call by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, followed by the communication from the Ministry of Shipping, Jawaharlal Nehru Port (INPT) has launched the “Swachh BharatAbhiyan” (MyCleanIndia – Of Dirt and Cleanliness) at the Port.

The Abhiyan was formally inaugurated by JNPT Chairman, Mr. N.N.Kumar, IRS in the presence of the Deputy Chairman, Mr. Neeraj Bansal,IRS; the Chief Vigilance Officer, Mr Sushovan Banerjee, IPS;the Heads of Departments and other officials of JNPT.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman stressed the need to make cleanliness as an integral part of our life and said that it is JNPT’s responsibility to sensitize the community in the vicinity of the Port to become a part of this noble mission.

The Abhiyan started with the Chairman administering a pledge to the Port Trust officials, after which a cleanliness drive was undertaken at various locations in the Port. Groups were formed to undertake cleanliness of the various locations like the Port Township, Port Users’ Bldg. (PUB), Training Centre, Guest House, Bulk Terminal Area, Main Container Berth Area, ICD Office Area, Shift Office, Port Operations Centre Building, Administration Building, JNPT Hospital,etc. Each group was headed by an HOD. 

The officials present participated in the drive by sweeping the respective area of litters and waste materials.

The two JNPT Schools, viz. Indian Education Society’s JNP Vidyalaya and St. Mary’s JNP School, equally participated in this Abhiyan, with the School Principals undertaking this responsibility along with the teaching / non-teaching staff and the students.

After the cleanliness drive, the Chairman took a meeting of the Heads of Departments and Sr. Officers to chalk out a blue print for the future cleanliness drive to be undertaken by JNPT. It was decided that cleanliness should be an important aspect of JNPort, making it a model Port in every sphere including sanitation.

    To spread the message of the Abhiyan, various posters, banners, placards were designed and placed at strategic locations.
