Fatigue and Fracture Analysis of Ship Structures

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

March 23, 2011

BMT Fleet Technology Limited, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, announced the next Fatigue and Fracture Analysis workshop for Fall 2011.   This three-day workshop will be of interest to Naval Architects, Engineers and Ship Superintendents who are responsible for vessel design, maintenance and operation.  Senior students engaged in naval architecture studies would also benefit.   The workshop presents tools and techniques for quantitative fatigue and fracture assessment of ship structures considering the materials, structural geometry and loading.  Practical application examples are used to reveal the value of this technology in supporting safe and cost-effective material, design and maintenance decisions. The upcoming offering will include additional information related to the design and damage tolerance assessment of marine aluminum structures. This addition to the course material will provide attendees with an understanding and the tools to assess and compare the design and expected performance of steel and aluminum structures. The materials will be presented and discussed by recognized experts in the application of fatigue and fracture mechanics-based methodologies.
