Specialist shipbuilder, Strategic Marine, has appointed Rob Osborn as General Manager for Fabrication and Engineering.

Over the last few years, Strategic Marine has established and rapidly developed production capability in the sectors of marine infrastructure, modular fabrication and engineering.

Rob Osborn’s appointment sees Strategic move into a new growth phase for these areas. Prior to joining Strategic Marine, Rob held several leadership roles in global companies with related backgrounds, including ATCO Australia and Kiewit.

“Rob comes to us with great experience in the project and contracting business, with responsibilities ranging from project identification, funding and development, commercial negotiation, oversight of engineering, direct responsibility for procurement, project management, and oversight of all operations,” said Reece Newbold, Group Business Development Manager.

“We are delighted to have Rob on board. His role sees us expand and reinforce our commitment to fabrication and engineering, in particular modular manufacturing for the maritime and mining industries.”

Strategic Marine’s fabrication business has seen steady growth over the past four years with a number of projects being performed within the renewable energy, marine infrastructure and mining markets.
With a focus on modular construction the yard has been able to capitalise on its waterfront location by providing completed modules that can be pre rigged, commissioned and delivered from the yard to site at minimal cost. This method of construction has also proven to markedly cut down on construction times and significantly reduce site costs and blow outs.

“Our business extends in these areas from Australia and South East Asia to The Middle East, the emerging African markets, and into Europe where we are able to compete very attractively with local providers.”

Reece continued, “Our extensive manufacturing facility in Vietnam enables us to be appealing in terms of both product turnaround time and cost management. Rob will be based in Vietnam to lead the team and we are investing in continual training programmes since we believe talent development is pivotal to delivering high quality outcomes.”
