A Texas-bound tanker carrying 300,000 tons of crude oil has become stranded off the coast of Bermuda after an explosion on Sunday evening, the Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) said on Monday.
"There were no injuries and there was no pollution," said an official at the RCC in Bermuda.
The explosion in the ship's engine crank case occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m.
The ship, British Valour operated by BP Amoco, has not requested assistance and is doing an evaluation of the damage from the explosion, he said.
"They are checking to see if the problem can be repaired on board. We have tugs ready if they are needed," the official said.
The ship, which was headed from Norway to Freeport, Texas, is floating without power roughly 80-miles southeast of Bermuda.
