Containership Susan Maersk became the first Maersk Line vessel to call at Southampton in five years when it arrived to the port on Tuesday as part of the Maersk Line’s new East West Network, a global shipping service that connects Europe, North America and Asia.

Susan Maersk, 347 meters long and with capacity for more than 10,000 twenty foot containers, called in Southampton as part of a voyage that saw her leave Ningbo, China on January 17. After discharging cargo, she will continue to Le Havre, Antwerp and Felixstowe before heading back to the Far East.

Maersk Line said the new call has been designed to service businesses based in the Southwest of the U.K., as Felixstowe will continue to be the major focus for customers based in the rest of the U.K.
