Solar Solve Marine received an order from Maersk Ship Design to supply 10 ships with its famous Solasolv anti-glare roller screens for a number of 308,000dwt crude oil tankers at the renamed Dalian New Shipbuilding Heavy Industries in north east China.
Formerly Dalian New Shipbuilding, the yard was the first in China to build very large crude carriers and delivered its first such vessel in 2003.
The new tankers, which are due for delivery from next year, will be the biggest they have built so far.
Solar Solve Marine moved last year to a purpose-built factory at Tyne Dock, South Shields.
Its screens will be installed at the wheelhouse windows to reject glare, heat and ultra-violet light and will also act as a navigation safety aid, enhancing the ability to view electronic charts, as well as allowing navigators to see clearly outside in both sunny and icy conditions.
The screens are used in navigation bridge windows on vessels across the globe, to protect mariners from the sun's glare and heat.
Solar Solve anti-glare screens are now used in about 6,500 ships throughout the world.
The South Shields company's products have been exported to 48 countries and across seven continents.
