Washington State Ferries' new passenger-only ferry Snohomish, sister ship of Chinook, was launched July 12, at Dakota Creek Shipyard in Anacortes.
Crews installed the ferry's propulsion systems, including the main engines and the water jets, and electrical systems throughout the vessel. Also, the exterior of the new ferry has been painted and much of the interior ceilings and walls are finished.
After launching, Dakota technicians made the final machinery alignments while continuing to work on the final outfitting in the interior. The delivery date to Washington State Ferries is scheduled for August 21. After shakedown cruises and crew training, Snohomish will join Chinook in service on Puget Sound.
