SKANTI Iridium SSAS DNV Approved

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

May 6, 2004

Denmark-based SKANTI has obtained DNV approval for the add-on SSAS-box for the well-proven Iridium terminal using the network of 66 reliable satellites. DNV approves that the SKANTI Iridium SSAS complies to SOLAS, chapter XI, Annex 6 (Dec. 2002). Deadlines for implementation is stipulated in ISPS CODE, 2003 Edition, International Maritime Organization, ISBN 92-801-5149-5.

Shipowners around the world have particularly shown interest in the fact that SKANTI’s Iridium SSAS fulfils two features at the same time: While an SSAS-Box is dedicated to the alert system, the SKANTIÒ Scansat-7701 Iridium Terminal can still be used for standard Iridium features such as cost- effective Voice and Data Communications. When one of the Alert Buttons connected to the SKANTIÒ Iridium SSAS Box is activated, an SMS is generated and transmitted through the SKANTIÒ Scansat-7701 Iridium Transceiver. The alert is delivered as an E-mail or an SMS (to another Iridium terminal) to pre-defined recipients. The SMS includes the identification of the vessel and specifies the vessel’s position. The recipients receive this information continuously, since the message is resent at programmed intervals until de-activated. The alert is delivered through the Iridium satellite system and directed to the recipients from the Iridium Gateway.
