March 16, 2001

Four people died and eight were missing after a cargo ship capsized in a river in China's eastern province of Zhejiang, an official said. Bad weather was hampering rescue efforts, the official said from Ningbo, where the ship capsized before sinking on Thursday. "Only five were rescued after the ship sank and one was slightly injured," he said. "We found four bodies and the search efforts are continuing." The official Xinhua news agency said the ship was carrying passengers in breach of regulations and capsized in gale force winds. It sank within five minutes, the news agency said. - (Reuters)
