Sinanju Orders Singapore's 1st Dual-Fuel Bunker Tanker
Singapore-based Sinanju Tankers Holdings has ordered what it says will be Singapore's first dual-fuel bunker tanker, to be powered mainly by liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Sinanju said in a statement on Monday it ordered the vessel through its project partner Mitsui & Co (Asia Pacific), a unit of Japan's Mitsui & Co, without disclosing how much the tanker will cost
The tanker, which will also be able to run on marine gasoil, will be used to deliver marine fuels to ocean-going vessels within local port limits, as well as for training on LNG handling procedures and safety, Sinanju said
Keppel Offshore & Marine's wholly-owned subsidiary Keppel Singmarine will build the 7,900-deadweight tonne tanker, due for delivery by end-2019
Ju Kai Meng, managing director of Sinanju, said the tanker would allow the firm to emit fewer air pollutants while boosting local use of LNG as a bunker fuel
The project has obtained approval for a grant of up to S$2 million ($1.52 million) from Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority LNG bunkering pilot programme, designed to support the building of LNG-fuelled vessels
