Singapore Minister Yew to Launch SGMF’s Global

Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Minister for Transport, Singapore, will conduct SGMF’s Global Launch on Stand No. 33 on Wednesday 15th October 2014 at 10.15am in connection with SIBCON 2014 confirms SGMF’s Brand, Marketing and Membership Manager, John Saunders. ‘SGMF has already established itself in Europe and America and we believe that SIBCON 2014 presents a great opportunity for us to connect with the Asian market. We are delighted to announce that the Maritime Port Authority (MPA) of
Singapore, which organises the SIBCON event, are founding members of SGMF’ Saunders added.

SGMF, The Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel, is a new non-governmental organisation (NGO) established to promote safety and industry best practice in the use of gas as a marine fuel.

‘Inspiring responsible future shipping’ is SGMF’s vision, Mark Bell, General Manager, quoted. ‘Leading the industry using our collective knowledge and experience to help and provide insightful guidance for safe and responsible use of gas as a commercial marine fuel. We want to lead the industry towards the use of gas and in the future some of the many other alternatives that are becoming feasible for shipping’ mentioned Mark
Bell.

SGMF, which was established in September 2013, has already attracted 76 global members from all aspects of the shipping and Oil & Gas industry. SGMF boasts a membership containing equipment manufacturers, port authorities, fuel suppliers, oil majors through to classification societies, ship owners, naval architects and more. It has already released its first official publication, ‘gas as a marine fuel – an introductory guide’ which is currently in a hardcopy guide but will be available on the SGMF website (www.sgmf.info) in due course. SGMF will be also releasing the LNG bunkering Safety Guidelines, due out in 2015.

SGMF has already set up 5 working groups to tackle the following themes: 1) LNG Safety Guidelines (Publication due out next year) 2) LNG Bunkering – Safe Working.
