Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems (KMSS) has been awarded the contract to supply the LBS College in Mumbai, India, with a state of the art Liquefied Gas Cargo Handling Simulator. The highly advanced simulator will be the first of its kind and will feature two ship models – one LPG tanker and one LNG tanker. The installation will feature extensive instructor facilities located in a separate room and fitted with monitoring, control and recording equipment. From here a student evaluation system will be implemented, allowing instructors to introduce fault sequences, malfunctions and actions in order to build relevant scenarios and objectively assess student competence. Also featured will be a Control Room area and a Deck area, both of which will be located in separate rooms. The Control Room will feature interactive, ship-like consoles to offer hands-on realistic training, while the Deck area will require students to physically move location in order to perform relevant duties, offering an incredibly realistic approach to this kind of training. The Deck area will also be represented by color graphic on-screen projection and via local operating consoles. KMSS will also supply six student workstation PCs, with the complete software system installed, as part of the simulator package. The PC based simulators will offer the same functionality as the operational simulator but presented on the PC screen via computer generated visuals. With an on line projector and the possibility of individual or team training, the PC workstations complete a highly advanced simulator package.
