Project “Antarctica I”, a modern Antarctic ship for Chile, will be built at ASMAR Shipyard, under commission of the Chilean Navy.

The polar class vessel will be the first one of this type built in Latin America and will support the development of scientific studies according to the Navy’s Program, Research and Development Department.

MELCAL, a dynamic engineering, research and manufacturing company, dedicated to the marine and offshore industry, and ASMAR Shipyard have signed a contract for the design, manufacturing and installation of two deck cranes.

With a robust and solid design, the two lifting solutions for cargo applications will be in compliance with rules and regulations of Lloyd’s Register of Shipping.

The stiff boom type lifting solutions have been designed in close consultancy with the Chilean shipyard to meet its specific operational needs.

“We are pleased to have been chosen by such a competent contractor as ASMAR working on this important project,” commented Benedetto Catanzaro, MELCAL CEO “our goal is to consolidate this relationship supplying a premium quality product”.
