Canadian Government Shipbuilding Strategy: CADSI in Harmony

The Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI) confirms industry support for the long-term vision of government following release of  the Auditor-General's report on shipbuilding procurement strategy.

"Today's report by the Auditor-General on the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy is a timely and helpful reminder of the important decision made by the Government to build naval and coast guard vessels in Canada," said Tim Page, president of CADSI.

"The shipbuilding strategy is the right approach for the right reasons, particularly in a time of global instability and turbulent economic times," said Page. "This long-term vision and commitment is good for our national security, and it is good for our sovereignty. It is intended to meet Canada's vital need for new ships, could support up to 15,000 high-quality jobs in Canada and create leading technologies including for export markets."

"Importantly, it will provide economic benefits across the country over several decades of work on fleet production and sustainment. We look forward to reflecting carefully on the Auditor-General's report in full," said Page.

CADSI is the national voice of Canada's defence and security industries, a sector that employs 109,000 Canadians and generated more than 12.6 billion dollars for our economy in 2011.
