Latest Global Shipbuilding Orders

Shipbuilding orders were rather less the past week, but there were notable contracts for specialised heavy-lift carriers from Chinese shipbuilders, according to the Clarkson Hellas S&P Weekly Bulletin round-up.

Dry bulk carriers
Limited ordering to report this week in dry say Clarkson, with the focus very much being on the smaller sizes. Starting with the larger of these, Parakou Shipping have declared a further four options for 64,000 DWT Ultramax at Chengxi taking the total series to eight vessels. Delivery of these latest vessels from end 2015.

In the Handysize dry bulk carrier market, Interlink have placed a new order for five firm plus five options 38,500 DWT bulkers at Kouan Shipbuilding. Pricing remains undisclosed however delivery of the firm vessels is within 2015 and early 2016 with options in 2016 if declared.

Tankships
Clarkson Hellas report just one order in the tanker market with Seabulk International contracting two firm Jones Act 50,000 DWT MR product tankers at General Dynamics NASSCO. Pricing for the vessels was not disclosed however delivery in planned for 2Q 2016 and 1Q 2017. Understood to have been designed by subsidiary of DSME, the vessels will have the capability for LNG Dual Fuel conversion in the future.

Container ships
A steady level of activity in the container market this week according to Clarkson:  starting with the larger sizes and CIMC are reported to have further increased the size of their order for 8,800 TEU container carriers at New Times by declaring a further two options. This takes the series to a total of 7 vessels with delivery of the latest vessels lined up for 2016.

Heavy Lift Vessels
Shanghai SY have taken an order for two firm plus two option 32,000 DWT MPP/Heavy Lift vessels from Chinese-Polish Joint Stock Company (CHIPOLBROK) with delivery of the firm vessels in the second half of 2015 and options in 2016 if declared. Each vessel is understood by Clarkson to be equipped with three 350T cranes with a combined lifting capacity of up to 700T.

An unusual order in the heavy lift market with a JV between BigLift and Rolldock Shipping (BigRoll Shipping) contracting two firm 22,500 DWT Heavy Lift deck carriers at COSCO Dalian. With the specification to include both Ice Class 1A and DP2, both vessels are lined up for delivery within 2015.
