Eastern Shipbuilding Delivers Clam Boats

A the final two in a series of four clam boats are being finished by the Eastern Shipbuilding Group in Panama City, Florida for a pair of New Jersey brothers. The first two boats are already delivered to the group of four fishermen. The first and larger of the two latest vessels from Eastern will be delivered in June of this year to Martin Truex This is boat 94 x 25.5 x 13-feet will be powered by twin Cummins KTA19M3 main engines rated for 640 HP at 1800 RPM. These engines will swing 60 x 60-inch propellers through Twin Disc MG5170 gears with 5.03:1 reduction. A third Cummins KTA19 M3 engine will power a pump for loosening the sea bottom to facilitate the dredging process. Electrical needs are met with a pair of Cummins-powered 45 Kw generator sets. Deck equipment is supplied by Airline Hydraulics. Fuel capacity will be 12,000 gallons with 1,000 gallons for water and 85 gallons for lube oil. Accommodation for a crew of four is provided. The second vessel to be launched in August with the name Catherine Elizabeth will be a little smaller at 75 x 23.5 x 12. This boat will have a single Cummins KTA19M3 main engine turning a 60x54-inch propeller through a Twin Disc MG5170 with the same 5.03:1 reduction. A single Cummins-powered 45 Kw generator set will be installed for electrical needs. An additional auxiliary engine will power the dredging clam pump on this boat. Tankage will include: fuel 8000 gallons, water 1000 gallons and lube oil 85 gallons. Accommodation with be for a three person crew. Both boats are designed to tow a clam dredge at three knots. The 75-foot boat has a free running ten-knot design speed while the 94-footer will make 12 knots. Both boats are built of A36-5/16-inch steel to ABS Standards and US Coast Guard stability rules.
