India’s Shipbuilding Gets Into Shape For The 21st Century
SMM India, shipbuilding, machinery & marine technology international trade fair in Mumbai from 7 to 9 April 2011
“SMM India could provide ample opportunities for useful interaction between various stakeholders and sharing of knowledge to meet the challenges of the market and make full use of the benefits and opportunities offered by the Indian shipbuilding industry,” says Dr. Satish B. Agnihotri, Director-General Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. He is referring not only to the international shipbuilding fair, which is to be held for the second time in Mumbai under the SMM brand, but also to the accompanying conference, where he will chair the technical session on Regulation, Environment & Safety. The organisers, Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH (HMC) and the Indian partner Inter Ads Exhibitions Pvt. Ltd., have received more than 100 registrations from shipbuilding and marine equipment companies from all parts of the world for SMM India 2011. The event will be held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (BEC) from 7 to 9 April, presenting the latest innovations and also tried and tested technology.
The international conference at SMM India 2011 gives the ideal theoretical framework for the exhibition with its practical product presentations. An introduction to the general subject of the conference, that is Indian Shipbuilding and Repairs for 21st Century, will be given by Mr. APVN Sarma, Programme Committee Chairman of SMM India 2011 and Former Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. A range of prominent personalities from India’s shipbuilding and shipping industry are invited to explain to the international audience the various facets of India’s ambitions in the maritime sector. They are headed by Mr. G.K. Vasan, Hon’ble Union Minister of Shipping, Government of India, who will explain the Government of India’s goals for the maritime sector, especially the shipbuilding industry, and for expansion and modernisation of ports. A keynote address will be given by Mr. K. Mohandas of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, Gov’t of India.
